Christmas Cards

I absolutely love sending and receiving Christmas cards. In fact, I like it so much that I have a special tree in my foyer to hang them on after I read them! Photo cards are my all time favorite along with those special handmade cards I talked about yesterday.

In fact, here are a close up of the cards I used yesterday...

These were made by my friends Michelle, Linda and Carolann. Aren't they lovely...

Each year I haul my family somewhere to get a photo taken for the Christmas card and this year will be no exception. When we are on vacation I plan to pick the site and brazenly ask a stranger to take our photo and keep asking until I get the perfect one. It drives my family crazy but they are usually happy in the end.

I send to everyone in my family, whether they reciprocate or not... to my local friends (who ALL reciprocate) and to my friends out of state. Some send, some don't. It doesn't matter to me. I know they all like getting them, they tell me so!

How do you do your cards? I would love to know!

  1. A card tree! Now why haven't I thought about that before??? I shall have one this year...yes, I shall!

  2. I think Christmas cards are one of the most inmportant parts of the season! I enjoy sending them and I enjoy receiving them. I'll never understand the people who don't. How can you not feel good about sending people greetings and warm wishes at this most wonderful time of the year? Every year, I get excited about sending them and, unfortunately, every year I get a little sad at the number of people who don't. It's just such a happy and inexpensive gift to give someone. I wish more people did it.
Although, I have to say, my absolute biggest pet peeve when it comes to Christmas cards is seeing those completely pre-printed ones. The ones where people order them with their names already stamped inside and sometimes, even with their return address pre-printed on the envelope. I get something like that from my insurance company - I do NOT like getting that from family and friends. It's the personalization of a real signature that makes the card special! I threatened my sister with dire consequences if she ever sent out anymore of those type of cards. lol

  3. Ditto what Kari said about the importance of Christmas cards! To me, it is just not Christmas without them. I definitely send way more than I receive but that is OK. Don't get me wrong...I would love to see my mailbox filled with them all through December. But I get such joy out of packing them up and sending them out. I love to make Christmas cards but I found that each year I was stressing myself over it as the season got away from me. Something had to give in order to do all the other things I want and need to do while still working. So for the past several years I have done photo cards and I am happy with that! They are fast, easy, but still personal. And really who wouldn't want to open their mailbox and see the world's cutest Beagle staring back at you?! :-)

  4. I make my own Christmas cards and send them out in early December. My fabulously talented friends also make their own cards and so when I receive those I'm in heaven. I display them front and center in the most visible place in the house. I love Christmas. It's funny I was just thinking about starting my Christmas cards today

  5. I make cards eevry year, and also buy cards every year. I love, love, love cards, and I am happy to get whatever people send.

I know exactly what you mean, Kari, about the pre-printed ones seeming impersonal, but I must say I have a cousin who thinks they are very elegant, and thinks they look rich! (I think its the "engraving" that makes her feel this way) She's a sweetheart, and takes a lot of time picking out just the right one every year...so I treasure it!
